ABOUT ABOUT

The Scottdale Historical Society annual Christmas House Tour will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 2-6 p.m.

Start the season in Scottdale as you tour 6 homes in and around Scottdale, including the historic Loucks Homestad.

Our friends at West Overton Village & Museums, the Geyer Performing Arts Center and Scottdale Chamber also have events planned in conjunction with the tour.

The Christmas House Tour will begin at the historic Loucks Homestead, located at 527 North Chestnut Street.  The Federal style Homestead was built in 1835, and was remodeled in the 1880’s popular Victorian style.   The home has maintained many of the original 1830’s architectural details and boasts many of the 1880’s embellishments.  The homestead’s Christmas décor will be presented by Miss Martha’s Floral designers David Mardis and Becky Halfhill.  Guests can also view the lower level of the Loucks house to see the collection of Scottdale's industrial, medical, and military history, as well as an elaborate holiday village on.  Tour guests will also have an opportunity to see inside the Summer Kitchen and Spring House at the Loucks House.  The Society will offer holiday baskets for raffle as well as carolers, organists, cookies and treats throughout the day.

In addition to the Loucks House, we are excited to have five other Scottdale homes on the tour this year and our friends at the Geyer Performing Arts Center and West Overton Village & Museums have special programs planned throughout the day at their locations.

Homes on the tour include, a circa 1890's Victorian with a wrap around front porch and many of the original details have been maintained inside.  A grand Georgian designed home, the height of fashion during the post Victorian period, features raised panel wainscoting, coffered ceilings, pocket doors with beveled glass panels and much more inside this elegant home.  Another Scottdale home features the homeowners design talents and holiday décor, a true treasure to behold.  A late Victorian era home that has been updated over the years will showcase all three floors and guest house features eclectic furnishings and tasteful interior design.  Back by popular demand, an 1880s Victorian home with added Georgian details. The many rooms in this grand home are decorated with different Christmas themes and it is a true wonderland to see if you missed it last year!

We are also pleased to have the Geyer Performing Arts Center and West Overton Village & Museums take part in our Christmas House Tour again this year.   The Geyer Performing Arts Center started in the 1890’s as the Geyer Opera House.  The Arts Center started an extensive renovation in the mid 1980’s and is known for its wonderful stage productions and live events since the transformation.  Period dressed guides will give you the history and back stage tour of this artistic treasure at 2:15, 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.

At West Overton Village & Museums, guests can step back in time as docents in period costume give tours of the historic mansion's second floor museum that is decked out in holiday finery. The open house includes a visit to the 1830’s summer kitchen for holiday treats.  The lower level of the Distillery Museum will be open for a vendor market with children’s craft area

As you start the season in Scottdale, enjoy lunch or dinner in town at Wish’s Bar & Grill.  Show your House Tour Ticket at Wish’s Bar & Grill and they will take 10% off your bill.  Be sure to take part in all of the festivities for the Winter Light Celebration at the Gazebo Park, located near the Scottdale Public Library.  The Winter Light Celebration is hosted by the Scottdale Chamber of Commerce and features a visit from Santa at 4.p.m, craft show and activities and treats for children until 7 p.m.
